Lab-Grown Diamonds
The most common questions about what lab-grown diamonds are — and aren't.
Yes — completely. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds in every sense. They have the same chemical composition (pure carbon), the same crystal structure, the same hardness (10 on the Mohs scale), and the same optical properties as mined diamonds. The only difference is where they were created — a laboratory rather than deep within the earth. They are not simulants like cubic zirconia or moissanite.
Lab-grown diamonds are created using two main methods: CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) and HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature). Both replicate the extreme conditions under which natural diamonds form — either by depositing carbon atom by atom onto a substrate (CVD) or by applying intense heat and pressure to a carbon seed (HPHT). The result is a genuine diamond crystal, grown over weeks rather than billions of years.
No — not to the naked eye, and not to a standard jeweller's loupe. Lab-grown and mined diamonds are visually identical. Even trained gemologists cannot distinguish them without specialised laboratory equipment. The only difference is detectable at a microscopic level through specific growth patterns unique to each origin method.
Lab-grown diamonds have lower resale value than mined diamonds — this is true and worth knowing. However, because lab-grown diamonds are significantly more affordable to begin with, you get far more diamond for your budget. We recommend thinking of a lab-grown diamond the same way you think of a luxury purchase — bought for the joy of owning it, not as a financial investment.
Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are conflict-free by nature — no mining means no risk of funding conflict zones. They also have a significantly lower environmental footprint than large-scale diamond mining, which involves moving tonnes of earth. Every Brilliance Culture diamond is lab-grown, giving you complete confidence in the ethics behind your purchase.
Yes — every single diamond. All Brilliance Culture diamonds come with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate, which details the exact Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat of your stone. The IGI is the global gold standard for lab-grown diamond certification, and your certificate includes a unique report number you can verify online at any time.
4 C's & Quality
Understanding cut, colour, clarity, and carat — and what Brilliance Culture recommends.
Excellent Cut — always. This is non-negotiable at Brilliance Culture. Cut is the single most important factor in how a diamond looks. An Excellent Cut diamond reflects maximum light back through the top, creating exceptional brilliance, fire, and scintillation. We do not offer anything below Excellent Cut.
We recommend E colour — the sweet spot between absolute rarity and outstanding value. E is colourless, virtually indistinguishable from D to the naked eye, and sits at the finest end of the colourless range. D is available for those who want the absolute pinnacle. We do not recommend below F for white gold or platinum settings.
VVS2 to VS1 is our sweet spot. Both grades are completely eye-clean — no inclusions visible to the naked eye — and offer exceptional purity at significantly better value than FL or VVS1. For most customers, VS1 gives everything VVS2 does at a more accessible price. We do not recommend below VS2.
Cut, always. Cut has the greatest impact on how beautiful a diamond looks. A larger diamond with a poor cut will look dull next to a smaller diamond with an Excellent cut. After cut, we recommend prioritising colour over clarity — slight colour is more noticeable than slight inclusions in most settings.
Carat is a personal choice based on style and budget. Because lab-grown diamonds are significantly more affordable than mined diamonds, you can get a larger stone for the same investment. However, we always recommend prioritising cut quality over maximum carat — a well-cut 1 ct diamond will outshine a poorly-cut 1.5 ct diamond every time. Our team can help you find the right balance.

Warranty & After-Sales
Your piece is backed by us — here's how our warranty and aftercare works.
We offer a 1-Year Manufacturing Warranty on all pieces. This covers structural defects from the manufacturing process, polishing and refinishing, and replacement of small accent diamonds (under 0.10 ct) lost during normal wear. For full details, see our Warranty Policy.
Normal wear and tear is not covered — this includes everyday scratches, prongs wearing down, rhodium plating wearing off, and damage from chemicals, perfume, or swimming pools. Stones lost due to accidental damage or external factors are also not covered under warranty. Any repair carried out by a third-party jeweller will void the warranty.
Email us at hello@brillianceculture.com with your order number, a description of the issue, and a photograph of the piece. We will arrange a reverse pickup, carry out a complimentary assessment, and repair the piece at no charge if the defect is covered. If it falls outside warranty, we will share a transparent repair quote before any work begins.
Yes — resizing is available on most ring styles. Please contact us at hello@brillianceculture.com to discuss. Note that resizing is not covered under the manufacturing warranty and may incur a nominal charge depending on the extent of alteration required. We always recommend confirming your ring size carefully before ordering.
To keep your piece looking its best: remove jewellery before swimming, cleaning, or applying perfume. Clean gently at home using warm water and a soft brush. Store separately to avoid scratching. Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals or chlorine. We recommend an annual professional check-up — our team is happy to assist at no charge.
